Philosophy
At Columbia International University, we believe in and practice "total life training" which engages the head, the heart, and the hands. We refer to this philosophy as our Educational Triad.
Head (Content)
We believe that effective ministry begins with Academic Excellence, founded on knowledge of Scripture and knowledge of the world. The Bible is the foundation of all preparation for Christian ministry. Learning its content and understanding its meaning are indispensable factors for ministry and life.
Heart (Character)
We believe that effective ministry is the fruit of discipline in Spiritual Life Formation. Spiritual maturity is based on a right relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. Growth toward that goal comes to those who maintain an attitude of surrender and faith and who faithfully use the means of grace. CIU is intentional in regard to this aspect of development in our graduates. From curriculum development, to advising students, to activities, to chapel programming, CIU's desire is to see everyone come to know and love the living God in a powerful way.
Hands (Competence)
We believe that Ministry Skills Development also makes one effective. God gifts His people with natural and supernatural abilities to enable them to achieve His purposes in the world. The enhancement of those abilities in evangelism, preaching, teaching, and discipleship is an essential part of preparation for ministry.
