It depends on who you ask, the Hebrew professor or the Greek professor! Some students find Greek comes easier, while others find Hebrew more simple to learn. Sometimes, the language that students learn first is the one that they prefer.
Most seminaries require training in Hebrew and Greek. The study of these languages at the undergraduate level allows students to deal more easily with the demands of seminary education and to move ahead more quickly through the seminary curriculum.
Greek is Greek and Hebrew is Hebrew, so that what students need to know is essentially the same. At the undergraduate level, we have the opportunity to meet every day during the class week, which is not always possible within a seminary setting.
Our goal is to help students use biblical languages readily and competently in their ministries. We emphasize the aspects of the languages that are used most frequently in the Bible. By the end of their training, students should be able to read the Bible in the original languages with the help of study tools.
Some people have a greater aptitude for language learning than others, but most students do well with Hebrew and Greek because their motivation level is high. They love God's Word and want to study these languages so that they can better understand the Bible.
