Middle Eastern Studies

Description:

The purpose of the Middle Eastern Studies program is to prepare students for international ministry opportunities, particularly in the Middle East. The program includes a year of study in Israel at Jerusalem University College, an evangelical institution with which CIU has a consortial relationship. During their time in Israel, students will be placed in Jewish or Arab ministry contexts to develop their ministry skills according to their vocational goals.

For the Middle Eastern Studies major, the following courses are required as part of the General Education Distribution.  Choose one course for Natural Science/Information Science and a fourth course from one of the three.

Practical Skill Development

Three semester credits of field experience serve as the minimum requirement for the professional majors.  Students are encouraged to develop their professional skill in either the marketplace, the ministry or in a mission context.  Consult with your program director for additional requirements.

  • Cross-cultural ministry: Minister among and to the people of the Middle East or another part of the world through various ministry agencies.
     
  • Marketplace ministry: Secure employment in the Middle East through combining what you learn in your major with a professional skill.
     
  • Graduate training: Your Middle Eastern Studies major provides a solid foundation for graduate study in a related field. You could complete our seminary's Master of Arts (Muslim Studies) program in only one year! Jerusalem University College also offers many excellent graduate programs.
