3. MORE Frequently Asked (Advising) Questions
Q. "What limits apply to transfer credit?"
A: Transfer credit may be used to meet the requirements of up to one-half of any degree. The total number of transfer credits and distance learning credits a student applies to his degree may not exceed one-half of that degree. If a students wants transfer credit applied to her degree after matriculation, an academic petition is required.
Q: "What limits apply to distance learning courses?"
A: Distance learning courses may be used to meet the requirements of up to one-half of any degree. The total number of distance learning credits and transfer credits a student applies to her degree may not exceed one-half of that degree. The Biblical Ministries Certificate may be earned entirely by distance learning. Distance learning courses do not count toward financial aid or residence requirements unless they are taken as EX (independent) or DO (online) along with at least one resident course during the semester.
Q: "What policies govern course substitutions?"
A: All course substitutions must be approved in advance by academic petition and must be accompanied by supporting rationale. Sustitutions which do not involve a change in alpha-designator (e.g., BIB for BIB) do not require instructor approval. Substitutions which involve a change in alpha-designator (e.g., ICS for BIB) must include approval by the instructor for the course for which the substitution is being made.
Q: "What policies govern undergraduate courses which are taken for SSM credit?"
A: Any 3000 or 4000 level undergraduate course may be taken for SSM credit, as long as additional work is added to bring the total housr of study involved to 135. The additional work must be documented as part of a Faculty Directed Study authorization. A student who wishes to take an undergraduate course for SSM credit must secure permission to do so in advance by academic petition.

Per semester hour (less than 9 hours) ..................................$425.00
Per semester hour (9-11 hours) ............................................$400.00
Per semester hour (12 hours* or more) ................................$350.00
Columbia Winter/Summer Terms (per semester hour)* .....$400.00

** A joint term is defined as a combination of the following individual terms only. Fall and Winter is considered a joint term. Likewise, Spring, Summer 1, and Summer 2 are considered a joint term.
