Federal Work Study
- To be eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS), fill out a FAFSA.
- Most student worker positions are eligible to be funded by FWS. The exception to this is custodial jobs.
- Your FWS eligibility does not determine student worker position availability. All jobs are accessible to all enrolled students except for community service positions.
- Financial Aid determines eligibility for FWS. If you are eligible, your financial aid award letter will indicate so.
- FWS positions are paid the same as other positions by a semi-monthly paycheck. You must pay federal and state taxes on your wages earned.
- The advantage of FWS over non-federally funded work: you do not have to claim FWS pay as income on your next year’s FAFSA form (i.e. you may be eligible for more financial aid in the coming year).
