At the start of the fall semester certain groups of people will be charged for use of the fitness center. However, throughout the summer months, the following people are free to use the fitness center: 1. All corporate CIU employees: faculty, staff (Ben Lippen School, Higher Ed and Broadcasting) and spouses. 2. All Higher Ed (college, seminary, and graduate school) students and spouses 3. CIU alumni 4. Children of #1, #2 and #3 only if accompanied at all times while in the fitness center. There is no day care provided in the fitness center and children should not be on the basketball court or watching TV while parents use the exercise or aerobics equipment. 5. Ben Lippen students should not come to the fitness center during, or after, school. Organized activities for Ben Lippen School sports teams or resident students should be coordinated through Dan Vance well in advance. 6. Children of employees (Ben Lippen School, Higher Ed, Broadcasting) should not be in the fitness center while their parents are still at work. They must be accompanied at all times. 7. If you are bringing a guest, please notify the fitness center staff upon arrival. Attire: Clothing and apparel worn in the fitness center should conform to the guidelines of use and principles of modesty set out in the student handbooks. Additionally, participants should wear shoes with non-marking soles when participating in activities on the wood floors (gymnasium and aerobics room). Contact: Feedback, comments, criticisms, suggestions and the like are welcomed. The Fitness Center Help Desk is ext. 5249 and the Athletic Director’s Office is ext. 5250. E-mails may be sent to dvance@ciu.edu Equipment: Access: Adult members and guests shall have full access to the entire facility during operating hours. Use will be restricted in the event of necessary maintenance, scheduled events, or at the athletic director’s prerogative. Members and guests under the age of 18 (excluding Higher Ed students) must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Failure to adhere to this standard will result in a two-week membership suspension for a first offense and the revocation of member ID(s) on any subsequent offense, as per the policy manual. Loan: The athletic department has a variety of sports equipment available for loan to Higher Ed students, faculty, and staff. Equipment may be signed out for as many as four days. On the fifth day, a fee of $1 a day will be assessed. Use: Periodically, the fitness center staff will teach a brief class demonstrating the proper use of the exercise equipment; those unfamiliar with exercise equipment are strongly encouraged to attend this class, as uninformed use may result in serious injury. If a specific question arises regarding the use or function of a particular machine, contact the control desk or the athletic director. Sanitary wipes are provided in rooms with exercise equipment; as a courtesy to fellow users and as a prevention against disease, at the end of your workout please make sure to wipe down any equipment you’ve used. If a piece of equipment appears broken or poorly maintained immediately contact the control desk or athletic director. Training: The control desk will maintain a collection of workout programs available for public use. If further instruction is needed, feel free to inquire at the control desk or at the Athletic Director’s Office. General Use: As a general rule, the fitness center should be used for athletic activities J. We would ask that individuals desiring to meet in the fitness center for a class or a meeting, schedule it elsewhere unless the nature of the class or meeting makes it only practical to hold it in the fitness center. Groups or individuals scheduling functions that will have food served should plan on preparing, serving and eating food on the covered patio area unless arrangements have been made through the athletic director and the Dean of Students Office. Guests: Each paying member will be entitled to five free guest passes per semester. Additional guest passes will be available at a cost of $5 per guest per visit. Adult children are not considered dependents, and will be counted against the guest pass allowance. The athletic director may be consulted for special circumstances. Guests are expected to follow the guidelines set down for general members. Lockers: A limited amount of lockers may be reserved each semester for $20 for a small locker and $30 for a large locker. The renter is responsible for providing the lock, and the school does not guarantee the safety of, nor assume liability for, any materials stored in the lockers. Lockers which have not been reserved should not have locks left on them overnight, nor should material be stored overnight. Consistent failure to adhere to this standard will result in the lock being cut off at the offender’s expense and a suspension of fitness center privileges to be determined by the athletic director. Lost and Found: Items left in the fitness center will be held at the control desk. Valuable or personal items will be locked in the athletic director’s office. Room Rental: Each semester a limited number of classes may reserve the aerobics room for a private class. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis by the athletic director, who reserves the right to reject or rescind room privileges. Reservations will never be granted during peak weekday hours. For a breakdown of class size, cost, and instructor fees, please consult the following table:
The above chart represents fees for an eight week course. The instructor fee will reflect the cost of an instructor divided equally among the classmates. Participants who join class already in progress shall pay a prorated room rental fee, and a full instructor fee. Class sizes may range from 8-20 participants. A class will not begin until eight participants have paid their room rental and instructor fees in full. Refunds will not be issued to those who drop a class. |
