A Daily Choice

I can’t speak for you, but I know there are days when I really don’t feel like worshipping the Lord.  Sometimes I wake up on the wrong side of the bed and other times my mind is racing with concerns.  In times like those, the last thing I feel like doing is praising God (whether in song, word, attitude, or action).  If we’re being honest, we can probably all attest to feeling this way at different points in our lives.

But I find both interesting and challenging the basis of King David’s worship…

…I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth (Psalm 34:1).

…Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name (Psalm 103:1).

Notice the circumstances of his worship – all times; the frequency of his worship – continually; and the scope of his worship – all that is within me.

David’s worship of the Lord was not based on feelings; it was a decision he made and a command he gave himself.  “Bless,” meaning “to speak well of,” is the choice David committed himself to in every season of life – on the good and bad days.

Will we choose to bless the Lord today – regardless of our feelings or circumstances?  I have no idea what you’re going through, but I’m absolutely certain that He is worthy of our worship even now.
