Ministering From Weakness

Ministering from weakness is not a subject of popular discussion in many circles. Let's be honest... none of us want to be weak at anything. Most of us are taught from an early age to be strong. If we can't be strong, we should at least fake it or don't get into circumstances that expose it. Weakness is to be avoided at all costs.

In June, Steve Saint, son of the famous missionary martyr, Nate Saint, was nearly paralyzed as he was testing a prototype. His ministry, I Tec, develops technology innovations that benefit indigenous people and provide a platform for them to share the Gospel. I'll never forget Steve coming to CIU and demonstrating a Transformers-like object that changed from backpack to dentist’s chair. These chairs are being used by the Waodani to reach out to neighboring tribes by providing basic dental care. What an amazing, out of the box idea!

In the pursuit of the next amazing tool, Steve is now fighting for the use of his body. How does he see the ministry now?

Watch Steve share his story below and be challenged to look at ministry from a radically different perspective...

Here's the poem Steve quotes:

The Thorn by Martha Snell Nicholson

I stood a mendicant of God before His royal throne

And begged him for one priceless gift, which I could call my own.

I took the gift from out His hand, but as I would depart

I cried, "But Lord this is a thorn and it has pierced my heart.

This is a strange, a hurtful gift, which Thou hast given me."

He said, "My child, I give good gifts and gave My best to thee."

I took it home and though at first the cruel thorn hurt sore,

As long years passed I learned at last to love it more and more.

I learned He never gives a thorn without this added grace,

He takes the thorn to pin aside the veil which hides His face.
