No Different than Last Year

O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You and praise Your name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.  (Isaiah 25:1)

This is the time of year in which we typically look back over the year gone by and set our sights on the coming year, anticipating changes, making resolutions, and hoping for growth.  Like many others, I find myself reminiscing about all that took place in 2011 and dreaming about what may come in 2012.

The uncontested highlight of 2011 was getting married (hence the above photo) to a man who has proved to be a loyal companion, trustworthy husband, and hard-working provider.

Potential 2012 highlights include college graduation (pending successful completion of student teaching), starting seminary (pending acceptance), or the basketball team I coach winning its first game (pending…you know…a win).

But as I reflect on 2011 and anticipate 2012, I am more amazed by the constant than I am the climaxes, more awestruck by the ordinary rather than the extraordinary.

To be honest, 2011 was full of the same thing as every other year – God’s faithfulness.  And, not truly knowing what lies ahead in 2012, I can completely depend on God to be faithful (pending nothing!).  Regardless of past situations, present conditions, or future circumstances, God is who He says He is and He does what He says He’ll do.

And for that He can be trusted…meaning only two days in I can predict that, in some ways, 2012 will be just like every other year
