Nothing To Do?

As the self-proclaimed “famously hot” capital of our state, Columbia does, in fact, boast some fun attractions.  But if we’re honest, most of us would admit to experiencing mild boredom – perhaps even discouragement – when faced with a free weekend in the (also self-proclaimed) “surprisingly cool” midlands.

After an extended amount of time in any city, familiarity can take over and lead to an under-appreciation of all that’s truly available.  In times like these, I think it’s good to get out and make a first-time discovery – a new park or a different restaurant, for example.  Another option is to learn more about what is available in surrounding areas and other parts of the state.

Only two hours from both the beach and the mountains, Columbia’s central location makes day trips feasible.  One place to consider visiting is Folly Beach, which offers public beach access and has numerous restaurants and stores within walking distance.  Of course, this is just one of many attractions in the Charleston area.

Get creative and explore what Columbia has to offer!  But don’t stop there; South Carolina is teeming with activities and potential adventures – you just have to be willing to look.
