Overview

The Master of Arts in Counseling program is designed to produce well-qualified, healthy clinical counselors who understand how to facilitate emotional healing and spiritual transformation process. Emphasizing a practitioner approach, the program prepares students for state licensure and NCE exam and for continuing studies at the doctoral level. Generally, students enter the program in the fall semester and complete the program at the end of the second summer. A practicum experience and two internships are included in the course requirements.

Purpose

The purpose of this program is to prepare qualified students to be licensed as professional counselors and leaders who integrate counseling research and skills with an understanding of biblical and theological truth in corporate, private, cross-cultural, Christian and secular settings. The program is designed for persons with at least 15 semester hours of previous work in psychology.  Throughout the program, students build and strengthen a strong Biblical and theological base, focusing on biblical studies, missions, evangelism, and spiritual transformation. Into this Biblical framework, students integrate their psychological studies, including personality development, pathology, diagnosis, as well as individual, marital, family, group and institutional treatment. Practicum and internship experiences allow students to implement and sharpen the skills they are learning. It is the goal of the program  that the student develop confidence not only in their healing therapeutic skills but also in their ongoing, spiritual transformation and maturity in leadership.

Admission Requirements

Students must fulfill specific admission and undergraduate psychology course prerequisite requirements prior to admission or acceptance into candidacy (see Admissions for detailed information).
