About the Library

1The G. Allen Fleece Library was constructed in 1968. When the campus was originally built, the library had been located in the basement of the men's dormitory. The new building was the dream of Shirley N. Wood, pictured on the left, the first full-time library director, who served in the library for 40 years, until her retirement. When the library moved into the new building, it consisted of approximately 30,000 books and media items.

The library is named after the second president of the university, Dr. G. Allen Fleece.

Today, the library holds a collection of almost 130,000 books and media items and a collection of over 250 current periodicals and thousands of bound periodicals. In addition, the library offers over 100 databases for research by students and faculty.

There are 180 study carrels situated throughout the library for student use along with a lounge area and four small sound proof rooms for private study and listening.

In addition, the Library hosts a unique media collection in the Curriculum and Ministry Resource Department, located in an adjoining building. Besides the curriculum material specifically designed for use by students of the undergraduate and graduate education programs, the CMRD houses over 10,000 items for use in teaching situations, particularly geared for Bible teaching. Patrons have access to thousands of visual aids of all kinds, from pictures and flash cards to models and the use of a laminating machine and a die cut system.
