Identity - Signage
8.1. Interior
Interior signage will include office and room identifiers as well as directional signs and directories at entrances. Signs will appear on or adjacent to the door (per ADA standards). These signs will be in black with white typography.
8.1.1. Directory Signs
Directory signs will be at main entrances of every large campus building, and at handicap accessible entrances. The directory will note the building name, floor, department or program name, occupant, and room number of the occupant. The signs will be sized to display the information listed above, within design standards. 8.1.2. Classroom Identifying Signage
Single-use classrooms, conference rooms and labs will be identified by a black name plate (2" x 10"), with white lettering, listing room number (48 pt.) and name (24 pt., where applicable).Multi-use classrooms will be identified by room number only.
8.1.3. Office Signage
Faculty/staff office signs will be identified by a black name plate (2" x 10"), with white lettering, listing room number (24 pt.), name (36pt.), title (24 pt.), and department/division (24pt.).
8.1.4. Suite Signage
Suites (defined as any office with inner offices) will be identified by a multi-name plate holder that includes a black name plate (2" x 10"), with white lettering, listing the suite number (48 pt.) and department/division (36 pt., optional).Below that will be faculty/staff office signs with a black name plate (2" x 10"), with white lettering, listing room number (24 pt.), name (36pt.), title (24 pt.), and department/division (24pt.).
Suite offices will carry room numbers only.
8.1.5. Other Building Signage
Barring restroom, safety, and accessibility signage, no other permanently or temporarily affixed signage will be used in hallways, doorways, windows, on walls or the outside of buildings.There are bulletin boards in key areas, as well as websites for all other needed postings.
Any unique signage situations which fall outside the parameters of this policy will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
8.2. Exterior
University signage standards provide for a unified, apparent, and campus-wide orientation and signage system. Focused on CIU's visual identity, accessibility, and clarity, these standards will help to minimize confusion created by visually inconsistent signs.
8.2.1. Main Entrance Sign
The main entrance will be marked with a sign that communicates the corporate identity.
8.2.2. Post and Panel Exterior Signs
.090 aluminum faces, front and back (where applicable), 26"(h) x 42"(w) x 2"(d) applied to 2" square aluminum posts mounted 20" from grade to the bottom of the sign face. Painted with CIU blue, using 3" white vinyl lettering with white arrows, and topped with a 5" CIU gold Victory Prayer Tower.
8.2.3. Temporary signage
Temporary Signage will be defined as signs of an informational or directional nature required for a limited time. Examples include event registration, parking, housing, etc. Custom temporary signs are not allowed on the university campus. Professional signs can be ordered and placed by the CIU marketing department for these purposes.
8.3. Banners
Banners shall be used only for advertising events and will be permitted only for a maximum of four weeks. Banners will not be permitted as permanent signage.
All banners will be 4" x 10", will be hung in the designated banner area on International Drive, and need to be approved and installed by the CIU Marketing department (we can also design and print them).
8.4. Vehicles
All visual identity guidelines outlined in this manual apply to the use of the CIU identity on campus vehicles. The following is a sample application:
