Chairman and CEO of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to Speak at CIU

Jim Morgan, Chairman and CEO of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Today’s economic climate is making it difficult for businesses to stay focused on their mission while at the same handling the daily challenges. That’s why Columbia International University is hosting a luncheon with Jim Morgan, the Chairmanand CEO of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. on March 1 from noon – 2 p.m.  Morgan will discuss Krispy Kreme’s mission statement: “To touch and enhance lives through the joy that is Krispy Kreme” and the ways his company strives to achieve the mission in their daily operations.

The luncheon is a part of CIU’s Marketplace Luncheon series.

Morgan has more than 35 years of business experience.  He was named Chairman and CEO of Krispy Kreme in 2008 after serving on the company’s board since 2000.  He has also served as chairman and CEO of Wachovia Securities and chairman and CEO of the securities firm Interstate/Johnson Lane, Inc.  Morgan is a past member of the Securities Industry Association Board of Directors and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) regional firms committee, and is currently on the board of directors of Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated.  He has also served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and is a graduate of Vanderbilt University.

Morgan maintains a lifelong commitment to youth and education through his involvement with numerous charitable organizations. As an active member of Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C., Morgan teaches a young couples class and has been a Sunday school teacher for the past 37 years.

Columbia International University President Dr. Bill Jones also recognizes Morgan’s heart for Christians in the marketplace.

“Bringing Jim Morgan to Columbia is another opportunity for Columbia International University to fulfill our desire to help men and women in the marketplace grow in their walk with the Lord,” Jones said.

Morgan will also address the CIU student body during a chapel service at 10:50 a.m.  Both the chapel and the luncheon are free, but RSVPs are required for the luncheon by 5p.m. on Feb. 28.  To RSVP contact Amy Westra at ciumarketplaceevent@ciu.edu or (803) 807-5084.
