At age 54, a Columbia International University alumna from Lakeland, Florida has found a new career that shines a light on the past — neon lights, that is.

Alison LaMons, a 1991 graduate of CIU has been a full-time water color artist for only a year and a half, yet her nostalgic paintings of neon signs has won her acclaim. Her work is featured in galleries nationwide, she has won awards at art festivals, and most recently Florida department store chain Bealls, named LaMons Bealls’ Florida Artist. She is in talks with Bealls to have her work turned into its own line of goods.
