CIU Alumnus Helps Youth Get the “Point” about Servant Leadership

The Rev. Gerald Watford

Columbia International University alumnus The Rev. Gerald Watford says he likes to teach kids to become self-disciplined and in control of themselves. Watford, who graduated from CIU with a bachelor’s degree in 1992, is family ministries pastor at Northeast United Methodist Church in Columbia. But he also teaches servant leadership to youth in a more unusual way – he’s a fencing instructor.

Watford is also a former highway patrolman, and as a Marine, was a member of President Ronald Reagan’s security team. His background and Christian faith make him desirous to see others lead a disciplined life. Read more about his ministry in Cassie Cope’s article “Pastor makes point of emphasizing concept of servant leadership” in The State newspaper of Columbia.
