A high school senior from Ohio whose professional goal is to teach English as a second language overseas is the winner of the 2010 R.C. McQuilkin Scholarship at Columbia International University.

Laura Paisley of Hudson, Ohio was awarded the full scholarship following a weekend of intense competition on the campus of CIU, Dec. 2-4. The R.C. McQuilkin Scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior who demonstrates high academic achievement, leadership qualities, a passion for Christ, and a desire to make Him known through Christian service in ministry or the marketplace. Prospective students were judged on interviews and relationship-building activities. Over 50 students from 13 states vied for the award which is named in honor of CIU's first president.

Laura, daughter of Brenda and Andrew Paisley, is a student at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in Hudson and is an active member of Hudson Community Chapel. Her ministry includes leading a small group for seventh grade girls, and participating in four missions trips.

Laura says she is extremely excited about attending CIU in the fall to major in Education or Intercultural Studies.

"I have found the school to be one that strives to provide a place for students to grow in knowledge of God and love for others," Laura said. "I look forward to seeing how God will use CIU and me to glorify His worthy name."

One of Laura's references for admission indicated: "In 25 years of working with high school students, Laura would rank in the top one percent. She is truly committed to knowing God, glorifying Him with her life, and sharing the gospel."
