Columbia International University Athletics is being honored for its commitment to ministry. The Rams are the recipients of the 2019-2020 Sports Ministry Award presented by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). The award is presented to an NCCAA member institution for “significant spiritual outreach through the utilization of athletic ministries.”

The CIU teams serve in ministries such as sports camps, mentoring in local schools, trunk or treat community outreach, refugee ministry and more. Additionally, the women’s soccer and softball teams make an impact by writing a note to each opposing player and sharing a devotional thought during the post-game prayer circle.

This is the second time CIU has received this award under Athletics Director James Whitaker's leadership. Whitaker notes that two of the four core values of CIU athletics are spiritual growth and servant leadership, with every team committed to living out these values in the local community and across the globe.

"This award is a testament to our coaches and student-athletes who understand so well the incredible platform they have to use their sport to share their faith and minister to others."  Whitaker said.
