Columbia International University students joined with Carolina School for Inquiry (CSI) for a Literacy Night with the theme of super heroes. CSI is a local charter school that has a long partnership with CIU.

The CIU students in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program met the CSI students and their parents for dinner in the CSI cafeteria before offering tips to the parents that will assist their children in learning at home.

Following the theme, the CSI teachers donned super hero costumes during the school day and the CIU students dressed for the occasion to give their presentations.

MAT Program Director Dr. Mark McCann says CIU Professors Lynn Hoekstra and Michelle Clevenger were instrumental in helping the MAT students build their content knowledge in preparation for the event.

“I was very proud of our candidates as they were not only excited to meet with the parents, but their content was spot on and their interactions were very good,” McCann said.
