Columbia International University President Dr. Mark Smith continued his “Get Acquainted Leadership Tour” of South Carolina by spending 45 minutes with Gov. Henry McMaster at the Governor’s Mansion, thanking him for his service and leadership.

Smith also discussed expansion plans for CIU and shared the new vision to double the enrollment and impact the educational environment of the state.

The men discussed ways to improve the state education system. Smith served on the State Board Of Education in Ohio before moving to South Carolina, while McMaster is a former member of the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

Smith also shared his desire to volunteer his time and serve state leaders in any way possible, noting that CIU students, faculty and staff are willing to do their part to serve the great state of South Carolina!

Smith was impressed with the wonderful hospitality of the governor and also met South Carolina First Lady Peggy McMaster and Mac, the family dog.

“The governor was the complete picture of a southern gentleman and I loved meeting him,” Smith said. “He is warm and friendly, and has a great depth of understanding of the issues facing the state.”

Smith was accompanied by Keith Marion, CIU vice president of estate and gift planning. And because Smith strongly believes in leadership investment, he brought along CIU sophomore Andrew McNeill.

CIU is experiencing exciting growth in enrollment and has announced $25 million in expansion plans for the campus. CIU is accredited by SACS-COC. More information on programs and enrollment is available here or call (800) 777-2227.
