Dozens of middle and high school runners from the Columbia area took to the steep hills, deep valleys and wooded trails that wind their way through the 400- acre campus of Columbia International University at the first CIU Cross Country Camp, July 22-24.

The camp was led by CIU Cross Country Coach Jud Brooker, who was assisted by award-winning runners Scott and Jane Brooker – Jud’s parents. Scott Brooker is an Elite Distance Coach and former U.S. Women’s Cross Country Nationals Race Director. Jane Brooker is a three-time Olympic trials qualifier.

In addition to long runs through the CIU campus, campers learned about biomechanics, nutrition, proper running shoes and goal setting. Each day was also interspersed with Bible devotions and fun activities including a bonfire, a game of Capture the Flag and an awards ceremony on the final day of camp.

CIU also hosted summer camps for boys soccer and boys and girls basketball: http://www.ciu.edu/newsstory/ciu-rams-host-sports-camps-summer.
