Diane Mull Named Interim Director of Alumni Ministries

Diane Mull Named Interim Director of Alumni Ministries

Diane Mull, Interim Director of CIU Alumni Ministries

A former assistant director of alumni relations at Messiah College in Pennsylvania has been named the interim director of Alumni Ministries at Columbia International University.  Diane Mull replaces Dr. Roy King who is returning to full-time teaching at CIU.

Diane Mull is no stranger to CIU.  She first came to Columbia 20 years ago when her husband, Andy enrolled as a seminary student and earned a Master of Divinity degree.  Diane took advantage of the opportunity to also complete mission courses in the seminary, and serve as the president of the Wives Fellowship at CIU.

For 18 years, Diane and Andy have served internationals in South Carolina as well as Texas, where they joined with International Students Incorporated (ISI) to launch a new outreach at Southern Methodist University.

Diane earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and a minor in Business Administration from Messiah College.  In addition to serving as assistant director of alumni relations at Messiah, she was also the director of the school’s Annual Fund.  Diane’s work led to her being honored with the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) award in Alumni Relations.

Diane returned to CIU earlier this year to serve as CIU’s 90th anniversary coordinator.   Meanwhile, Andy is still connected to CIU as an adjunct faculty member.  He also serves as a campus pastor at the University of South Carolina.

The change in leadership came about after King said he sought clarification from the Lord on his next assignment.  King’s time of prayer and reflection followed a serious allergic reaction to medication in November that resulted in King being on a hospital ventilator for over two weeks, followed by two months of intense therapy.  He says since then, God made it clear that he is best equipped to be a teacher, coach and writer.

“I am someone God uses to either start or restart a task,” King said.  “I have never been the fellow to refine and manage.  I tend to arrive with the heavy construction equipment, move a lot of dirt, and see if we can get something going.  I am not the cabinet and trim carpenter though I admire their work.”

CIU Alumni Association Leadership Council (AALC) President Shirley Moreland says she is not concerned about the transition in leadership because it is God who orders our steps.

“We can move forward confident that the Lord will provide a new Alumni Ministries director according to His timing,” Moreland said.

CIU alumni will learn more about the search process for a permanent director after the AALC meets in September.
