Students in the Digital Media and Cinema program are playing an exciting role in the production of an impactful video for a local crisis pregnancy center.

They’re assisting Linda Brown, executive director of LaVie Pregnancy Care Center in Lexington, South Carolina, in a dramatic video demonstrating the number of abortions that have been performed since the 1972 Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion in America.

“I have been doing presentations of the impact that Roe v. Wade has had on our community and our culture,” Brown said. “The students are helping me with the demonstration so it can be shared.”

In the video, Brown drops BBs into jars representing the number of Americans killed in each war the United States has participated in since the Revolutionary War. But then she compares those numbers to the total number of abortions since 1972, and the jar representing abortions overflows.

Getting CIU students involved with the video began with Professor Scott Adams, the director of the Business & Organizational Leadership program who oversees Launch, connecting CIU to the community. He was at a Rotary Club meeting where Brown made the presentation and he saw “grown men reduced to tears.”

“Since President Mark Smith says we will be out in the community, it was a natural fit for a faith-based ministry and the Digital Media program,” Adams said. “It all came together.”

The students are under the direction of Professor Ken Rife who expects to have the final edit of the video complete by the end of February.

CIU is experiencing exciting growth in enrollment and has announced $25 million in expansion plans for the campus. CIU is accredited by SACS-COC.
