A distinguished Columbia International University alumnus and a leader in Bible publishing is with the Lord.

Sam Moore passed away on June 1, 2018. He was 88 years old.

When Moore arrived in the United States in 1950 to attend Columbia International University, then called Columbia Bible College, he paid for his schooling by selling Bibles door to door. Moore later recruited other students who needed to work their way through college. This was so successful that in 1961 he founded Royal Publishing, a Bible-publishing venture. By 1969, Moore purchased Thomas Nelson Publishing which soon became the world's largest Bible publisher and a leader in religious book publishing. Through these endeavors Moore helped others to know Christ and to make Him known, the motto of CIU.

Moore graduated from Columbia Bible College in 1954, and Columbia Biblical Seminary in 1955. For his achievements and dedication to the Lord, Moore was named Distinguished Alumnus in 1990. It was through his generosity that the Moore Fitness Center was dedicated in 2007, opening the way for CIU to compete in intercollegiate athletics by 2012.
