Divorce OK if Spouse has Alzheimer’s?

Robertson and Muriel McQuilkin

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson raised eyebrows when he told his TV audience on “The 700 Club” on Sept. 14 that divorce is OK if a person’s spouse has Alzheimer’s disease.

Pat Robertson’s views got the attention of other media, including “Christianity Today” magazine.  Read the article and the backlash of comments from the magazine’s readers.

One of the most well-known, alternative views is from Columbia International University President Emeritus Robertson McQuilkin.  Two decades ago he decided to step down and end his 22-year tenure as president of CIU (then called Columbia Bible College) to care full time for his wife Muriel who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Hear McQuilkin’s recent message, “Seven Things I Learned from Muriel” given at Sandhills Community Church in Columbia, S.C.

Robertson McQuilkin’s life with Muriel is also the subject of the book, “A Promised Kept.”
