Columbia International University’s April Undergraduate Preview Day was Doug Wear’s first time back at CIU in 20 years.  Wear graduated from CIU in 1987 and now lives in Flowery Branch, Ga.  His daughter Lauren is a high school junior and is considering CIU for her undergraduate degree.  He says a lot has changed.  But the most important things have not.

“You are still getting that solid balance of biblical teaching and professional education,” Wear said.  “If anything, the core values are articulated better [now, and they] keep the school’s vision and goal on target with Scripture.”

Over 40 prospective students attended CIU’s Undergraduate Preview Day. Students, parents, and friends had the opportunity to tour campus, eat lunch with professors, and hear student testimonies.

Andrew Harrell of Columbia, who heard about CIU from a current student, said he is interested in attending the school because of its biblical education.

“[CIU]’s great … I like the fact that it’s Christian based,” Harrell said.  “They teach you the Bible, so that your passion for God can stay rooted and not lose your focus on what’s important.”

Harrell’s goal is to “spread the gospel with technology,” and he is looking into CIU’s Intercultural Studies major hoping to find the training he needs to use computers for the Kingdom.

A panel discussion was available to parents while prospective students attended a class.  At the “Majors Market,” professors explained the courses associated with their particular major. A presentation called “CIU Life” explored student life, financial aid, and other areas of interest to students and parents.
