Former Army Chief of Chaplains Delivers Holy Week Message at CIU

Major General Doug Carver (left) with CIU Professor of Chaplain Ministries, Dr. Michael Langston, a former Navy chaplain.

Major General Doug Carver understands the admonition of 1 Peter 3:15.

but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;

As chief of chaplains for the United States Army, he was called on by his commanders to offer spiritual advice as the Iraq War was about to begin.

Carver, now retired, related that experience to the student body at Columbia International University, delivering a Passion Week Chapel message titled, “What a Mighty God We Serve.”

Carver was appointed to the position of chief of chaplains in 2007 becoming the first Southern Baptist chaplain in that position in more than 50 years.  Carver is also the former director of training at the Chaplain Center and School at Fort Jackson in Columbia.
