Basketball Teams Hold School-Wide Athletic Event

The 2017-2018 CIU men’s and women’s basketball teams were introduced with a little madness —Moore Madness — a fun October event for students, faculty and staff in the Moore Fitness Center.

It was a night of food and fun competitions with a basketball theme.

“I think this is a really cool event, and I'm glad that I came,” said freshman Jaelyn Rodriguez-Laureano.

Faculty and staff participated in hoops-shooting relay races, musical chairs that involved making a basket before sitting down, and tug-of-war. One of the main events was a dunking contest scored on creativity and athleticism.

“It was really great to see such an enthusiastic turnout,” said senior Rachel Joung. “I hope to see this energy and support continue throughout the season.”

“I think it's one of the coolest things when we come together as a school to support our basketball teams and get excited about what they're doing,” said senior Dallas Sims.

Meanwhile, the members of the basketball teams were extremely appreciative of the large turnout and encouragement.

“The support from the students was awesome!” said sophomore Justice Mazyck of the Lady Rams.

“I appreciate people coming in such a great number,” added men’s sophomore Juraj Rovis. “They showed us they care, and to me as a basketball player, that means quite a lot. I think the event itself was great, and I had a ton of fun!”

The men’s basketball squad begins their season Oct. 28 at Trinity Baptist College, while the women open their season on the road at North Greenville University Nov. 2.

“I'm looking forward to a great basketball season,” said Dr. Wayne Rasmussen, director of the CIU Sport Management academic program.
