International Christian School Educators Meet at CIU

Christian school educators conduct an experiment at a session on "Teaching for Inquiry."

Christian school educators at a track on "Teaching for Inquiry" mix household ingredients to view the results. CIU Professor Dr. Lynn Hoekstra told the group that "inquiry-based learning" leads students to be filled with the awe of the Creator.

Dozens of Christian school educators from five nations are on the campus of Columbia International University this week for the annual International Institute for Christian School Educators (IISCE). Nations represented include the United States, China, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Nigeria.

The Institute explores the philosophy of Christian school education and its implications for today's Christian school. Educators attend plenary sessions as well as tracks specific to teachers and administrators. Organized by the Lowrie Center for Christian School Education at CIU, several of the tracks are taught by professors in CIU’s College of Education. Track topics include: “Developing a Philosophy and Policies for Discipline,” “A Biblical Concept of Curriculum,” and “Classroom Management.”

Among the keynote speakers is well-known Christian school educator Dr. Glen Schultz, director of Kingdom Education Ministries
