Major Redesign Coming to CIU Cafeteria and Student Center

An eye-popping redesign of the Columbia International University student center and cafeteria will begin in spring 2019. The renovations will create more space in the cafeteria, add an additional diner-style eatery with all-day hours, and create a student store operated by Tree of Life Bookstores. The $2.5 million project is being funded by donors.

CIU President Dr. Mark Smith says the new cafeteria will offer eight to ten food stations eliminating congestion and minimizing wait times for students, faculty and staff. The menu will expand to include more international choices and wood fired pizza.

As a cafeteria option, the diner will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. specializing in hot food selections, while the new student bookstore will offer student supplies, daily necessities and snacks.

Smith says the renovations will increase job opportunities for student workers. He also notes that food services is often a top factor when a prospective student is choosing a college.

The project is expected to be complete for the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.
