Outgoing CIU President to Address Commencement April 29

Dr. Bill Jones

CIU President Dr. Bill Jones will be the CIU commencement speaker April 29.

Outgoing Columbia International University President Dr. Bill Jones will give the charge to the CIU graduates at an April 29 commencement, the final commencement over which he will preside as president. Jones, CIU’s sixth president, has led the school for 10 years.

It was announced in February that Jones will move to the chancellor position at CIU beginning July 1 when Dr. Mark A. Smith will become president.

In addition to his work at CIU, Jones serves as chair of the International Leadership Team of Crossover Communications International, an organization he cofounded in 1987. Crossover plants churches among people groups where there are few Christian churches.

A passionate communicator, Jones has spoken to thousands of people around the world. He has also authored several books, most recently, “Putting Together the Puzzle of the Old Testament” and “Putting Together the Puzzle of the New Testament.”

Jones graduated summa cum laude with a chemistry degree from Georgia Institute of Technology and holds earned doctorates from CIU’s Columbia Biblical Seminary and Gordon-Conwell Seminary.

Commencement ceremonies for graduate and seminary studies begins at 8:30 a.m. while undergraduate ceremonies begin at 11:30 a.m., both in Shortess Chapel on the CIU campus. The commencements are ticketed events.

Of the 206 students graduating, 97 are undergraduate students, while 109 are seminary or graduate students, including three students receiving doctorates.
