Course Descriptions - Knowing Your Bible

Getting to Know the Old Testament Story (BIB 5112)
Learn the basic flow of the story of God's work in creating the world and setting the stage for the birth of His Son. Discover how the books describing Israel's development as a nation relate to the history and culture of their time. Get the big picture of God's plan to bless all the nations in Jesus Christ.

Getting to Know the Old Testament Prophets (BIB 5113)
Learn how the prophets and their message of judgment and redemption fit into the Old Testament story. Listen as they proclaim God's program for Israel and the nations. Discover the way in which they look forward to the life and ministry of Jesus the Messiah.

Getting to Know Jesus (BIB 5132)
Follow the life and ministry of God's Son from the announcement of his birth to his return to the Father. Discover how Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John combine to provide a comprehensive portrait of Jesus the Messiah. Learn how his own mission sets the pattern for the mission he entrusts to his disciples.

Getting to Know the New Testament Church (BIB 5133)
Trace the progress of the New Testament Church as it spreads throughout the Roman Empire. Discover how the New Testament letters fit into the missionary history of the Church. Rejoice in the Church's ultimate victory described in Revelation.

Handling God's Word Accurately (BIB 5410)
Learn the basic principles necessary to interpret and apply the Bible correctly. Understand how to deal with parables, poetry, and prophecy. Practice what you learn on selected missiological passages from the Old and New Testament.

Course Descriptions - Sharpening Your Skills

Understanding Yourself and Your Ministry (MIN 5300)
Understand your identity in Christ and your potential for effective ministry. Identify your spiritual gifts, your personality type, your personal style, and your ministry passion. Evaluate what God has done in your life, where you are currently in your ministry development, and how you can prepare for future ministry opportunities.

Understanding Your Culture and Community (ICS 5030)
Discover how to construct a biblical worldview and evaluate competing belief systems. Understand the basic assumptions an individual uses in making decisions about the world. Develop the basic skills and tools needed to penetrate a new culture and ministry cross-culturally.

Sharing Your Faith (ICS 5035)
Understand the theory and skills needed to share your faith effectively. Gain experience in sharing the gospel with seekers in non-church settings. Learn how to train other Christians to reach the unreached.

Explaining Scripture, God, and Christ (THE 6310)
Explore the doctrines of Scripture, God, Christ, and Last Things. Learn to integrate those truths into real life situations and communicate them to others. Understand how theological concepts are expressed differently across cultures.

Explaining Salvation, the Spirit, and the Church (THE 6320)
Explore the doctrines of Man, Sin, Salvation, the Holy Spirit, and the Church. Learn to integrate these truths into real life situations and communicate them to others. Understand how God intends you to experience godly living in today's world.

Course Descriptions - Caring for Your Flock

Learning to Lead (MIN 5310)
Lay a biblical foundation for leadership. Understand God's perspective on leading churches and organizations. Create a leadership development framework for lifelong leadership learning.

Learning to Counsel (CNC 5400)
Learn basic pastoral counseling techniques and paradigms. Discover how to apply biblical principles, techniques, and paradigms to life situations. Explore such common counseling issues as anger, marital breakdown, addiction development, anxiety, depression, and grief.

Learning to Teach (EDM 6044)
Understand conditions which foster personal growth toward Christlikeness. Learn how to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles and contexts. Gain experience in preparing and teaching lessons from Scripture.

Learning to Work as a Team (ICS 6075)
Learn how to build and lead an effective team. Understand team dynamics and the principles which help groups work together in ministry. Discover strategies for dealing with team conflict and for applying what you learn in multicultural settings.

Internship 1-2 (INT 6211-12)
Engage in ministry in a local church as a pastoral intern. Participate in an agreed-upon range of pastoral responsibilities under the supervision of a member of the church's staff. Learn how to apply the principles and skills needed for effective pastoral ministry.
