Why did you choose Columbia International University?
I chose CIU because it was a place in which the Christian community was genuine, honest, and real. I visited the campus and immediately felt the tightness of the community and the love that existed between the students. CIU also has a great Education program, which is what I wanted to study. The professors seemed to be caring and intentional in helping students succeed.
What has been your favorite class at CIU and why?
My favorite class at CIU has been Bible for Teachers taught by Dr. Cooper. I enjoyed that class because it connected the Bible as a whole. Often we know many different Bible stories, but we fail to see their connection in that each event was a purposeful act of God in history to prepare humanity for Christ's redeeming death on the cross. The course challenged me and produced much spiritual growth in my life as I studied the Bible differently.
What do you like best about CIU?
Community. The community at CIU is one of love, honesty, and trust. Brothers and sisters in Christ are willing to go out of their way to care for someone else. There is an atmosphere of unity as we all desire to honor God. I like that Christ is the center of all we do, and that we don't have to be ashamed of Him. To be surrounded by other believers who desire to pursue God wholeheartedly is always encouraging.
What do you plan to do after graduation from CIU?
I plan to return to my home country of Nicaragua to be an elementary school teacher. I would also like to coach a high school soccer team. My desire is to see Nicaragua turn from its troubled past and look to the future with hope. This can be accomplished as people are educated properly and as the Gospel is made real in their lives.
