What has been your favorite class and why? Hands down, Crisis Counseling, by Dr. Barbian. Why? Because of what it intends to do - equip me to help people deal with crisis. Let's be honest - except for an occasional "good sermon, pastor!," nobody really comes to speak to their minister, unless they have issues. If we can't help them - really help them; to grow through those issues, then what is the point of being a shepherd? I like this class because it really delves into the heart of what we are called to do in ministry - serve the sheep.
Why did you choose Columbia International University? Three reasons; its academic excellence, its commitment to practical training, and its love for missions. I came here because I want to grow. I want the degree, but honestly most of my unsaved family doesn't even know what a Masters of Divinity is. When I leave place I want to be a better disciple and I want to be better equipped to make disciples who make disciples. I chose CIU because I believed that it would do that. I haven't been disappointed.
What do you like best about CIU? My professors are approachable. Yes, they are incredibly academically astute; they are experts in their fields. But they are also willing to mentor, they are willing to have lunch with me, and willing to listen when I come by their office. Their ministry at CIU isn't about tenure, academic respect, or money. It's about students. I appreciate that.
