Housing Options
CIU has 6 traditional residence halls which house mainly undergraduates. Two suite-style Clusters are reserved for upperclass, undergraduate women. We also have 5 homes (capacity of 5)which are used to house graduate and seminary students. Each semester approximately 375 students live in one of the three types of on-campus housing provided.

Traditional residence halls have double occupancy rooms with entrances from a shared hallway. Each floor shares a kitchenette, storage room, cleaning closet, and two hall restrooms/shower rooms.

Typical Room Layouts
Internet Access
CIU Residential Network Access (ResNet)
CIU Residential Network is a service to the students that provides an Internet connection. In order to take advantage of this service, the student will need to have a personal computer with the following items:
- Windows 2000 or XP with the most recent updates, or Mac OS X or later.
- Anti-Virus Software that receives daily virus definition updates.
- At least a 1 GHz processor, with at least 500 MB of free hard drive space, and at least 512 MB RAM. Computers with less than 512 MB RAM will receive limited support.
- 10 Base-T Wired Ethernet , 10/100 Base-Tx Wired Ethernet or 802.11b or g Wireless card. The front desk in the computer lab sells cables. Extension 5147.
The type of computer chosen is up to you. Residential Computing, however, will only support computers running the following operating systems:
Windows 2000
Windows XP Home or Professional
Macintosh OS X or later
Please note that we will be unable to support Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Linux, or UNIX based operating systems. We will gladly check your network connection with a test computer, but you will be completely responsible for resolving any problems with an unsupported machine or operating system.
The IT Services Department lists the following minimum specifications for a computer that will connect successfully to the CIU network. While computers that do not meet these specifications might be able to connect, we will only be able to provide technical support to computers that fall within the stated minimum requirement guidelines.
Processor 350 MHz or higher
RAM 128 MB or higher
Hard Drive 500 MB Free Space or more
Ethernet or Wireless as previously specified
Ethernet Category 5 patch cable (cables can be purchased from the SCC Front Desk if needed)
The Clusters and graduate/seminary houses are not connected to ResNet and the only internet access is through a local dial-up connection.
Cluster Housing
Each of CIU's suite-style Clusters contains 4 groups of rooms. Within each room cluster, three students share a common area and sink while maintaining their privacy in their own partitioned space. The 4 room clusters share a larger living room, laundry room, and fully equipped kitchen.
Graduate Housing
CIU owns 5 single-family homes on-campus that have been turned into on-campus houses for single graduate and seminary students. Each house has four bedrooms: 3 are single rooms, 1 is a double room. Each house has two full bathrooms, kitchen, living room and a dining room. The houses are each furnished but vary from house to house.

The Village
Columbia International University has a mobile home village which contains 85 lots. This village is located on campus property and is accessible by car from Frost Avenue. It is connected to the main campus by paved walkways through a wooded area.
Of the 85 lots, 22 contain rental homes owned by the university. These homes have either two or three bedrooms. Each home has laundry connections and is furnished with a stove and a refrigerator. The rental units are available to married students who are either part or full time students. They are not assigned on a first-come, first-served basis; priority is given to those with the greatest need. Those interested must complete a village application. These applications are reviewed a few months before each semester and applicants are informed if a unit is available for them.
All rental rates include trash collection, but all other utilities are the responsibility of the renter. The utilities bills are paid to CIU on a monthly basis.
The remaining 63 lots contain homes owned by current students or employees. Each semester some of these homes are available for sale to current or incoming students. All current homes for sale are included in the off-campus housing list. The Student Life Office should be contacted before purchasing a mobile home in the Village.
Pets are only allowed in the owned homes, may be no larger than 24 inches at the head, and must be kept indoors.
Living in a mobile home may not be conducive to those with strong allergies.
