Purpose

The purpose of the Business & Organizational Leadership (BOL) program is to prepare students for effective

leadership in business and organizations anywhere in the world. Graduates will be able to perform successfully

within a variety of for-profit enterprises, not-for-profit organizations, and international nongovernmental

organizations (NGOs).

Combined with Columbia International University’s Bible and theology core and its general ministry skills

requirement, students will be distinctively equipped for global service as leaders engaging the marketplace and for

traditional ministry from an ethical leadership perspective and a biblical worldview.

The BOL major develops the practical skills and core competencies required for the challenges of business and

organizational dynamics and systems in domestic and international settings. The major immerses students in the

timeless principles and cutting-edge processes that are essential for maximum effectiveness in creating and

managing businesses, leading and developing other businesses, and forming and building high-performance teams

and organizations. Beyond developing their own professional skills and competencies, graduates are equipped to

pursue graduate education in areas such as business administration, accounting and finance, international

business, or organizational leadership.

Objectives

By completing the BOL major, each graduate of the program will be able to:

Demonstrate basic proficiency in essential business and organizational skills in order to enter a business or

non-profit organization at a managerial or leadership level, or to launch a business enterprise.

Demonstrate how one’s training in business and organizational leadership is strategic and sustainable in

the context of the various communities and cultures in which one serves.

Devise a personal philosophy of business and organizational leadership that integrates a biblically-based,

Christian worldview that can be used in any community or cultural setting.

See Appendix A for graduation requirements.
