INSURANCE

All students are required to have health insurance

coverage. Under the federal government’s health care law

(the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act), you must

have a plan that qualifies as minimum essential coverage

or pay a fee on your next federal tax return. There is no

special student exception to the federal requirement to

have health insurance. CIU does not provide a student

health insurance; the student is responsible to secure his

or her own coverage.

ADDENDUM FOR GEORGIA STUDENTS ONLY

In keeping with the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary

Education Commission’s standards on refunds, the following

applies to students who are residents of the state of Georgia

and taking classes online or at a Columbia International

University site in Georgia:

Refunds are made in full to the student within 45 days of the

date of withdrawal.

Refunds are determined based on the proration of

tuition and percentage of program completed at

withdrawal, up until 50% of the program.

Students completing 50% or more of the instructional

time will not receive any refund.

Refunds are based on tuition paid for semesters of

the instructional program as described in the

enrollment agreement. This policy only applies to full

withdrawals and it is up to the institution to

determine policies for refunds for partial (course)

withdrawals.
