Entrance Requirements
What are CIU's undergraduate entrance requirements?
CIU sees you as a whole person. We want to help you develop a strong personal relationship with Christ, and learn balance and stability in relationships with others.
Applicants should evidence strong Christian character and commitment, potential for effectiveness in Christian ministry, and the scholastic achievement and intellectual ability to handle college assignments.
Applicants must submit a transcript from an accredited secondary school and an SAT or ACT score, or a certificate of high school equivalency, or a G.E.D certificate. We recommend a thorough background in English grammar and composition, two or more foreign language courses, two units each of math and history and one unit of natural science.
We recognize the power of God to help students succeed in an academic environment even if they have previously struggled, and academic history is only one factor in determining acceptance. The applicant's heart, character, and potential are also considered as important factors in the admissions process.
Does CIU Accept Advanced Placement or Transfer Credits?
Yes! College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Advanced Placement Program (AP) credits are accepted for certain subjects applicable to our program.
If you're transferring from another accredited college, you may receive credit for courses that fit into the CIU program you choose if you earned a grade of C or better. Our transfer evaluator will work with you to chart out your course of study.

Here’s how to apply:
- Complete the online application (there is a $35.00 application fee).
- Have your high school and/or college transcripts or General Education Development (GED) scores sent to us. The transcripts should be from each school attended and must be sent directly from the school to us.
- As early as possible, take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (College Boards) or the Assessment College Test (ACT) and request that your scores be sent to Columbia International University. Our code number is 5116 for the SAT and 3848 for the ACT.
- Obtain a "Free Application for Federal Student Aid Form" (FAFSA). It is the basis for all Federal, State or college scholarships, Pell Grants and student loans. You may access the FAFSA application at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- Our Admissions Office will work with you and notify you periodically about any application items still needed. When all forms have been received, your application will be carefully considered.
