100th Anniversary Commencement

The Class of 2023 will have the privilege of walking the stage of Shortess Chapel a century after the founding of CIU as The Southern Bible Institute that held its first classes in a rented house near downtown Columbia.

At its founding, the institute was to be “evangelical, interdenominational and missionary” and its purpose was “the training of Christian men and women in the knowledge and practical use of the Bible for service at home and abroad.” Methods and platforms for ministry have changed over time, but in 100 years, CIU has not deviated from that foundation.
