The Assistant Director of Admission Operations provides leadership for the multi-faceted operational functions of the Admission Office; supervises staff; plans and implements recruiting strategies, and assists in the development and implementation of efforts designed to achieve overall enrollment goals.



  • Develops a competent, productive, and effective staff by selecting and supervising, directly and through delegation, designated personnel and part-time employees.
  • Manages and monitors the effectiveness and efficiency of prospect and application processing and monitors achievement of office goals for response time.
  • Oversees the distribution of outgoing mail to prospective students and influencers.
  • Provides leadership in office planning and direction; participates in strategic planning and process improvement for continued growth and development of staff and enhanced office operations.
  • Serves as strategic liaison for other campus departments.
  • Supervises welcoming and directing guests on campus, response to the CIU main phone line/Admissions line, maintenance to all switchboard menus, submenus, and directories.
  • Contributes to the effective utilization of University resources by assisting with management of a portion of the budget of the Admissions office.
  • Contributes to the success of the Admissions office by advising and assisting the Director of Admissions for undergraduate, graduate, and online in aspects relating to the recruitment and admission of students and by performing all other essential duties as assigned.



  • Ability to supervise staff and work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to be alert, precise, analytical, tactful and persuasive.
  • Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and possessions of integrity and sound judgment.
  • Mental faculties to plan, organize, solve problems and make decisions.
  • Knowledge of computers, word processors, and other office and communication equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Flexibility in days and hours available for work, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to meet and deal effectively with prospective students, parents, and general public.
  • Knowledge of student information management systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to articulate CIU’s academic mission, educational goals, core values, educational philosophy, academic programs and admissions policies & procedures.
  • Knowledge of international student regulations with U.S. Immigration & Naturalization Service.
  • Minimum two years of experience in higher education preferably in admissions and recruitment.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
