Description

The director of track and field and cross country will oversee the men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs at Columbia International University (CIU).  The applicant must prove a strong commitment to Jesus Christ and demonstrate a strong commitment to the welfare of the student-athlete.  In addition, the director must show strong organizational skills and the ability to conduct collegiate level track and field and cross country meets.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee all aspects of the men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs.
  • Work within the budget as set-forth by the institution.
  • Conduct all practices and workouts with the help of assistant coaches and strength and conditioning staff.
  • Recruit academically proficient and athletically capable student-athletes for all four teams under their purview as director.
  • Order and maintain all uniforms and equipment.
  • Schedule cross country and track and field meets.
  • Monitor the academic progress of the student athletes.
  • Demonstrate spiritual leadership, conduct team devotions and prayer.
  • Coordinate all aspects of team travel.
  • Participate in fundraising for cross country and track and field programs when requested by the athletics director.
  • Comply with all NCCAA and NAIA policies and guidelines.
  • Operating college-level track and field meets at the CIU track and field complex.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years as a head collegiate track and field or cross-country coach preferred.
  • Experience running championship level track meets.
  • Hold at least a USATF Level 1 coaching certification.
  • Understanding of NAIA, NCCAA or NCAA compliance regulations.
  • Must have submitted to the lordship of Jesus Christ and profess to be a Christian.
  • Willing to comply and agree to the regulations consistent with CIU Faculty & Staff handbook and uphold all CIU student standards and rules.
  • Must hold a valid US driver’s license and be willing to drive vans and non-commercial transportation vehicles.
  • Be able to lift over 50 pounds and stand outdoors for long periods of time while coaching.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in sports management, coaching, organizational leadership or a related field preferred.
