Systems Administrator I
Description
The Systems Administrator provides second level technical assistance for campus network and server infrastructure. This person also coordinates and deploys faculty/staff workstations and printers, and provides technical support for computer hardware, software, phones, printers, and peripherals.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate all phases of computer hardware, computer software, & printer deployments (fac/staff & student computers). Provide computer/software training and computer hardware and peripheral inventorying.
- Provide first level support to supplement help desk when needed. Coordinate escalation/assignment procedures of issues and initiate resolution of technical problem areas indicated by queues.
- Perform second level computer hardware/software support, configuration/deployment under coordination of systems administrator via local or remote support methods. Work with hardware/software vendors for troubleshooting or repair.
- Provide server administration support (GPO settings, Office 365, ADS, Print management) under the direction of the systems engineer.
- Provide network administration support for campus infrastructure (routing and switching, wireless access, firewalls) under the direction of the systems engineer.
- Assist systems engineer in emergency systems shutdown to communicate to end users, restore and validate system functionality.
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to include interaction with public, students, faculty and staff
- Ability to work under pressure and with deadlines.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment regarding proper troubleshooting procedures and protocols.
- Broad knowledge and proven aptitude for working with various computer hardware and software.
- Able to research and resolve complex technical issues with limited supervision.
- Able to document changes made or steps followed to implement systems or resolve issues.
- Ability to follow procedures in great detail and work with little supervision when needed.
- Knowledge of MS Office, Microsoft operating systems, Cisco switching, Office 365.
- Minimum two-year college or equivalent experience in information technology support role.
- Certification in A+, Network +, Cisco and Microsoft strongly preferred.
