Did the Apostle Paul write that “money is the root of all evil?”

Many Christians are quick to point out that 1 Timothy 6:10 actually reads,

For the love of money is the root of all evil …

Yes, but Columbia International University professor of New Testament, Dr. David Croteau, says that for a fuller understanding of the issue of money, we must consider the whole context of 1 Tim. 6:9-10.

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (KJV)
