In times of uncertainty, people often turn to the Bible for words of comfort and hope. A man by the name of John wrote to Christians living in challenging times at the end of the first century.

What he wrote, the Bible’s book of “Revelation,” is often a source of misunderstanding and fear.

But a Columbia International University Professor of New Testament, Dr. Michael Naylor, says Revelation is a book of hope for the future with significant relevance for today.

That’s why CIU is offering a free and live eight-week class on the Book of Revelation, “Revelation Live,” taught by Naylor and hosted over Facebook Live beginning May 11. Lecture time is 12 noon on Mondays and Thursdays. While the class is free, participants may earn undergraduate or graduate academic credit at a reduced price.

Naylor, who is also CIU Bible Studies Chair, says a study of Revelation is ideal during the challenging times of a pandemic.

“The Book of Revelation has a lot to say about God’s sovereignty, the problem of pain and suffering, hope for the future, and what it means to follow Christ in a challenging and uncertain world,” Naylor said. “In that way, Revelation has great significance for us during this crisis.”

Those watching on Facebook Live can post comments during the lectures, with Naylor posting answers to some of the questions in the comments section after each lecture. Student taking the class for credit will complete various assignments (discussion boards, papers, etc.), and will interact with Naylor over an online platform.
