Columbia International University and the University of South Carolina are collaborating to encourage entrepreneurship and economic development as they share expertise and resources.

In a memorandum of understanding (MOU) executed on November 13, the University of South Carolina Columbia Technology Incubator (USCCTI) and the Columbia International University School of Business & Professional Studies (SBPS) agreed to work together to enhance the opportunity for success in entrepreneurial programs, solutions, jobs and support networks.

Four primary areas of opportunity for this collaboration include:

  • Developing programs and curriculum as a “Launchpad” for the most effective outcomes.
  • Developing and delivering entrepreneurial boot camps and training days.
  • Pursuing federal, state, foundation and other grant programs to assist in the growth of the partnership.
  • Establishing international outreach programs for the international business community.

Executive Director of USCCTI, Chad Hardaway, says partnerships like this are important to the USC Columbia Technology Incubator.

“Working with institutions of higher education such as CIU and within their School of Business will elevate the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the Midlands, the state, and the international community,” Hardaway said. “We are thankful for Dr. Scott Adams, dean of the CIU School of Business & Professional Studies, and CIU President Dr. Mark Smith for their leadership in this endeavor.”

Adams calls this collaboration a win-win partnership with far-reaching impact.

“This exciting partnership between our area's two premier providers of business education, leadership training and community entrepreneurship will further economic development, provide new business and entrepreneurship opportunities, and develop additional resources to equip leaders in The Midlands and around world,” Adams said.

Columbia International University consistently ranks among the Top Regional Universities in the South by U.S. News & World Report. Excitement is growing on campus with increased enrollment and online programs such as the MBA. Request information at (800) 777-2227, ext. 5024 or www.ciu.edu.
