Community is the number one reason Harrison Burnette recommends Columbia International University to others.

“Had it not been for the loving, caring, God-fearing community at CIU, I would not nearly be where I am now in my walk with the Lord nor my relationships with other people,” says the senior from Shelby, North Carolina.

Burnette is a double major in Music and Biblical Studies who says music professor Dr. Rod Lewis has taught him a number of things, not only about music, but about life and the Lord.

“He is that kind of professor that really shows their investment in your entire formation, not just in your specific discipline,” said Burnette who sings and plays guitar and bass in the Chapel worship band.

Burnette can stand in the middle of campus, point in any direction, and recognize someone who has contributed to his spiritual development.

“I cannot even put into words how the Lord has changed me since I’ve been at CIU,” Burnette said. “God has used this community of caring fellow students and incredible professors to reveal Himself to me in incredible ways. He has shown me His beauty, His truth, His love. I have learned what it means to know about God and, more importantly, to really know God.”

After earning his bachelor’s degree, Burnette plans to pursue post-graduate studies and ordination in the Church. But one day he could be back on a college campus, pouring into the lives of young people, just as others have poured into him.

“I would love to one day minister and teach in higher education.”

A spring 2023 student satisfaction survey identified the factor most important to CIU students and CIU’s top strength as “My relationship with God has been strengthened.”

CIU is celebrating 100 years of its mission to “educate people from a biblical worldview to impact the nations with the message of Christ.” The university consistently ranks among the Top Regional Universities in the South by U.S. News & World Report, as well as a Best Value Regional University in the South.  Apply now or request information on enrollment by contacting Admissions at (803) 807-5024 or admissions@ciu.edu.
