lockdowns, and related emergencies will also be sent to students who subscribe

Student Computing Center (SCC)
The SCC exists to serve and assist students with computing needs, as well as
help ensure that the use of university computing resources is consistent with the
Student Handbook, the law, and good stewardship. All students are expected to
adhere to these guidelines during their enrollment at CIU.
Student Accounts:
A user ID (or login name) and password are assigned to every
registered student. The SCC user ID is usually composed of the student’s
first name.last name
. Initial passwords will be assigned randomly to students and
should be changed by the student to help maintain security. Account usernames
and passwords are not to be shared with others. Sharing login information may
result in a loss of SCC account privileges. User login is restricted for use only in
designated areas that provide student access computers and only during the
hours of operation.
In the event access needs to be available outside of the normal
student SCC access hours due to specific academic needs, instructors may request
an access time change from the SCC Front Desk.
Lab Hours:
The Student Computing Center (SCC), G. Allen Fleece Library,
Memorial, Founders and Schuster lab stations provide access to student
computing resources at different hours of operation. Hours are posted at
www.ciu.edu/scc. Campus student labs are closed during chapel hours.
Other Technical Information:
Assistance is available on our website at
http://my.ciu.edu/itsupportor at the Information Technology Support Center at
807-5176 or
supportITO@ciu.edu.
Lab Etiquette and Equipment Usage:
Food and drinks ARE NOT permitted in
student computing areas. The equipment is expensive, and we want to practice
good stewardship with the resources. Student access computers are primarily
open to CIU students and faculty/staff. Temporary access is available for guests
on a weekly basis through the SCC Front Desk. Quiet is expected in student
computing lab areas. Children are not allowed on SCC computers except when
accompanied by an adult. Assistance is available at the SCC Front Desk.
Students using the computer lab are required to abide by the following:
•
Use only login IDs as provided with the Student Lab account;
•
Use the computers without altering or modifying the system
configurations in any way;
•
Abide by U.S. copyright law as it pertains to receiving, copying, sharing,
storing, modifying, or transmitting files or data;
•
Read and comply with the full user guidelines as stated in the Student
