VA Benefits Coordinator
Description
The primary role of the VA Benefits Coordinator is to provide excellent service for our military and veteran students at CIU. The duties include maintaining accurate records on how our VA students are served, act as an advocate for veterans at CIU, and via communications with the Department of Veteran Affairs, certify enrollment to the VA and tracking payments, serve as a contact person regarding financial questions and concerns for VA students, and serve our active duty military students who utilize tuition assistance. This is a temporary part-time position that will be reassessed in six months after departmental structural changes take place.
Responsibilities
- Provide efficient and timely communication with each student regarding VA updates, their current and future enrollments, their benefits, and current policies.
- Serve as a contact person regarding financial questions and concerns for VA students.
- Certify/invoice for courses, track and maintain documentation for compliance purposes for all VA and Military tuition assistance students.
- Review VA student accounts and coordinate payment with accounting office.
- Complete school certifying official training with the VA and maintain certification on an annual basis.
Qualifications
- Continual need for customer service, alertness, organizational, critical thinking and math skills,
- Detail-oriented
- Ability to recall and adhere to federal regulations.
- Ability to interact with students, listen, explain, and counsel.
- Frequent need for: writing, investigating, decision-making, and planning.
- High school diploma required.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience required.
- Customer service experience preferred.
