On a crisp, sunny spring morning, students searching for both careers and summer jobs met employers looking to fill new openings and secure interns. As was the case at the fall career fair, various for-profit and nonprofit organizations showcased their employment opportunities. Multiple institutions have established themselves as regulars at this event, including The Richland County Sheriff’s Department, The National Guard and Chick-fil-A.

Many new faces were also present such as Dominion Energy on the corporate side, and on the ministry side, Bethel Christian Camp, represented by program director Jason Arrington.

“Our basis is Scripture, and we’re looking for people who understand that and understand the need for the gospel and are willing to share that with the campers,” Arrington said. “Staff members have the responsibility of the campers’ well-being, watching over them and protecting them is a big aspect of the job. It’s an all-day job, but it is so much fun and there is never a dull moment.”

Another company setting up shop on CIU’s campus for the first time was The Cason Group, an insurance service company.

“We make insurance fun,” exclaimed their team of representatives. “We look for people who align with our culture and values. We’re people first, and we will work to match a new hire to a job that fits both their skillset and growth potential.”

Other notable participants included Christian schools and churches. Among them was Holland Avenue Baptist Church in Cayce, represented by current CIU student Trevor Morgan, the church’s youth pastor.

Jonathan Lawrence, who has become Chick-fil-A’s flagship spokesperson at CIU, had exciting news to share about possible benefits offered to Chick-fil-A employees.

“We are working on a partnership with CIU that will offer tuition assistance to CIU students working at our restaurant,” Lawrence said, noting that employees will receive other benefits after working one year with the company, including healthcare coverage and a free gym membership.

“We want to invest in our team members,” Lawrence added. “We want their experience working at Chick-fil-A to be valuable and something that they can build on as they move through life. I think that is what sets us apart.”
