A Columbia International University Intercultural Studies student is mobilizing women to counter violent extremism.

Shirin Taber, who is enrolled in CIU’s online M.A. in Muslim Studies program, is the founder and director of the Middle East Women’s Leadership Network, a media producer and the author of the book, “Muslims Next Door.” She assists multiple organizations in faith-based initiatives, especially those involving women.

Taber recently collaborated on the short film CELLULAR, which chronicles the journey of a young Arab woman in Los Angeles ensnared in a terrorist plot.

Read more about Taber’s work on “The Exchange,” a blog of Christianity Today magazine. Her post is titled, “The Increase of Women’s Involvement in Violent Extremism – Christians must reach out to their Muslims neighbors and together prevent extremist abuse and violence.”

What is God leading you to do? CIU will assist you in the process. Information on CIU programs and enrollment is available here or call (800) 777-2227, ext. 5024.

CIU is experiencing growth in enrollment and has announced $25 million in expansion plans for the campus, including construction of the $20 million William H. Jones Global Business and IT Center. CIU is accredited by SACS-COC.
